Tip of the Month
Feeding baby birds
Feed with a good quality hand-raising mix.
Use a bird-feeding spoon and ensure the
food is at room temperature. Drop a small
amount of food into the gaping mouth. If
the bird will not open it's mouth gently force
it open. Feed every four hours and as the
bird gets older every three hours. Do not
force feed liquids. Feed till the bird is full
(you will see from the crop when it is full).
Crops should drain out at least once a day.
If you are going to take chicks out of a nest
box, wait till they are semi feathered and
preferably raise more than one bird at a
time.
Keep the bird out of drafts and sick or
injured birds should be taken to your vet.
